Getting your home ready before the window installation crew arrives makes the project run more smoothly and protects your belongings from dust and accidental damage. A little preparation goes a long way toward a stress-free installation day. Clear the area around each window that is being replaced. Move furniture, lamps, plants, and decorative items away from the window by at least three to four feet on the interior. The crew needs room to work safely and to set down tools and materials without causing damage. Remove window treatments before the crew arrives. Curtains, blinds, shades, and valances all need to come down before installation begins. Take down any curtain rods or hardware that attaches directly to the window frame or surrounding wall area.
